On my 04 chevy Z71 i sometimes get a service 4wd message on my gauge cluster. When I read the owners manual it says to pull over and turn the truck off, turn it back on and if the message is still there, bring it in for service? What kind of service does it need. The truck only has about 75000 miles. Can anyone tell me what is triggering the message to come on? Thanks in advance!

My 2003 does it, its been in the shop reprogramed, also I remember something about a recall on the switch panel, also the first time the plug on the 4x4 switch wasn't pluged in good,So as far as me I dont think they have a fix for it,im going on 3 years since i got them to reprogram it,still dose it,
They had a reprogram on the seat memory also.

Thanks Rob, I will make sure it is plugged in. The 4wd works fine, I don't use it that often, I don't go mud-riding or anything out of the ordinary. I thought it may be a message telling me to change the oil in the transfer case. Rob is your boat going to be ready for the g.c. offshore patroit poker run? Thanks guys for all the input!

I have an '04 Silverado 4X4. That light has come on twice and would not go off. Took it to the dealer and both times they said it was a false message. They replaced some switch / circuit behind the panel. First time it was under warranty. Second time cost me about $150. Mine has around 40K miles.

Most of the time it is a sensor or switch malfunction, goes away. If it stays on for several days then it may need to be fixed. There is an easy fix go to webites that handle GM vehichles and do a search.

.you all with the newer models will have more power than mine.theres a reprogram on the 4x4 ,really didn't make a diff, it still pops up, if ya change the digital read out to something else, it goes away, rumor, a sensor on the trans might cause it?? rumor.. Ive got 90k and hadn't change transfer case, I was thinking the trans fluid is the same???My boat will not be ready, still in paint ,new excuse he broke his wrist, its been since Dec 15th,I'm FKED,he just want finish it, he never runs out of excuses. He will regret it the rest of his life one way or another!!!
