Default What coolant for 496HO?

Hi, do you know what coolant to use for a 496HO.

From what I've read it takes pure coolant, no water mix so wondered what spec coolant it can take, and what type is normally in it?

Thanks

Richard

I believe the pure coolant you read about was the Merc branded dex cool. It comes pre-diluted with water so you don't add additional water to that product.

Remember, pure anitfreeze will freeze when cold. If you use standard dex cool (not merc) then mix it with water about 50/50 or 60/40. If you live where it gets much below 30 degrees, just use merc or find out what the manual calls for on the mix ratio.

If you want the best stuff, drain it all out, flush it & run Shell or Cat ELC style coolant.. It's a bit more $$ but a lot better stuff.. Jamie / Lakeside
