Default New Tow Vehicle Needed

My 2500 Avalanche has 93K on it and it is probabaly a good time to trade it in. What do you guys think about a 2500 Silverado Crew Cab with either a 6.0L Gas or the Duramax?

Anyone have one - whats the good/bad? Towing about 9500#currenlty unless i upgrade my boat in a couple years!!

Looking for input please!

How does your avalance do pulling and why are you wanting to trade it? We are thinking of either trading in our 1/2 ton suburban for a 3/4 ton suburban or if we can find a nice 3/4 or 1 ton crew cab gas we might buy a truck just to tow our boat and keep the burb. We have a Baja 275 and I think it's pushing the limit on the burb.

Sorry I can't help you with your question but good luck getting one.

Is your Avalanche even rated to tow that much? I would go with the diesel, but make sure its rated for that amount of towing, and not just vehicle, the hitch also. Because if its not, and you have an issue, insurance might give you some headaches.

I have a 2007 with the new 6.0 w/ 6-speed auto. I don't tow often enough to justify the cost of the diesel. We pull a fully fueled Top Gun with it, probably not as quick as the diesel but it gets the job done until we find a Top Kick. If your Hustler is a true 9500 lbs you would have no problem with the gas motor if you that's what you decided on.

You can get a Hemi in the Dodges but your resell/trade-in value would take a serious nosedive. Gas motors in medium duty trucks don't sell well.

I'd be fine with a Dodge and even a Ford. Brand wise I'm not picky as long as it can do the job and hold up. Resale we aren't worried about since we are looking for something from 2000 or newer. Not sure how big the quad cab is on a Dodge. We have two kids and I would like the crew cab over an extended cad for the extra room in the cab. It wouldn't be driven that much so I'm like c_deezy and don't think it would be worth the extra cost to do diesel.

Kirk's 2500 Avalanche has the 8.1 engine and actually tows his 344 Hustler very well. His concern is going to a smaller cubic inch engine for towing.

the 6.0 and now I think it is 6.2 cannot compare to the 8.1. I am a diesel guy and drive a Duramax, but my buddy has the same truck as mine with a 8.1 and it is no joke. Tows as well as the diesel, just gets terrible mileage. If you have a 8.1 donot go to the 6.0, you will regret it.

The 2500 Avalanche is rated for 11K lbs. towing; properly equipped.

Go for a diesel & you will never look back. You will NOT like going to a smaller engine for a tow vehicle. It's not like your next boat is going to be any smaller, right?
