Default Alpha upper

I actually have 2 questions:

1) how do you split the alpha apart? I've gotten the 3 nuts on the 'gimbal' side of the drive, and the two on the bottom of the ventilation plate, what now?

2) What constitutes a usuable core on the upper case? When my gear went the case got gauged around the the outside of the driven gear, is it now trash? I can't see how that section of the case would affect anything except peraps oil splashing, and then you could just putty it up and hone it??

Thanks in advance,
--Adam

P.S. As I had feared, the #%^@! that sold me the boat put a 1.5 (20/22) drive on the boat... Behind a damn 454.. WTF! That helps explain the brief drive life...

Now remove the zinc trim tab with an allen wrench and you will find another allen-head bolt under the tab. It's got to come out too.
