35 fountain towed w/Dodge Durango??

35 fountain towed w/Dodge Durango??
I am trying to get my fountain moved from ill. to Nj-so far I only have a guy that says he can tow w/his Dodge Durango rated for 9000 pounds w/brake assist- What do you my boat weighs w/alum. tri-axle? Is he nuts?? thyanks

No he is not nuts you are. I would have nothing to do with towing a 35 Fountain from Peoria to New Jersey with that vehicle. You should get in your own truck and just go pick it up.

I am not sure what model you have but if you look at a new 35 Lightning they are 9500 just for the boat alone. If you look at an executioner you are at 8500 pounds. This is dry weight no fuel or other equipment. Then add another 1000 pounds if it is an allum. trailer 2000 if it is steel. I would not do it.

Exactly...go to the truck section top of the page..and educate yourself on towing. You will be amazed at what a wealth of info that is on that thread from various people that own boats/haul and haul boats for a living. Many good and bad experiences..the do's and DON'TS. Good Luck.

You have to look at GVWR, not the towing capacity. Roughly a Durango has a GVWR of 6600 lbs. The curb weight of the vehicle is roughly 5100 which means that you only have 1500 load capability. The trailer tongue weight should be roughly 1000 lbs leaving you with 500 lbs for everything else; passengers, luggage, fuel, boat crap, etc.
A lawyer would have a field day with this if it ever got into an accident, maybe the insurance company wouldn't even insure it.
I wouldn't even consider it for a second. Do it right or don't do it at all. Pushing the limits on this type of activity is dangerous for you, your friend, and the people he'll injure. Get an F350 and drive with confidence.

As a guy who tows a 35 CIG with a Dually F350 Diesel Crew Cab (yes I know a fountain is a few thousand pounds lighter than my CIG) I will say that i think the guy isn't nuts, he is just plain ignorant.
