Default Estimated Speed

Some may recall that I had an engine block crack on me the winter of 2008/2009. It was due to the people who were suppose to winterize our boat, did not. Anyway, long storry short, I finally received a settlement check.

I am having an engine built and it should put out about 450-475 hp. It is a 454 that is bored and strocked to be a 496, etc. port work, larger intake and carb, cam work, etc. It will be dynoed, etc. The builder thinks he will be able to get 475 HP out of it. I am not sure what the HP of my past engine was, but we ran about 72 MPH at 4800 RPMs. Had a smaller intake and carb, normal port work, so was not able to pull anymore out of it (had to trim the hell out of it to get it there).

I have an 89 24. With 475 HP, what type of speeds might we be looking at?

I think you may gain a few MPH, but it will take signifigant gains in HP to get a 24 over 80.

Already start on the build? I have a 510" that made 535hp/570ftlb on the dyno if you haven't pulled the trigger yet. Same motor pushed my 29' to nearly 80.

475hp out of a 496 stroker can almost be built by accident. With the right cam and some head porting, 500hp+ is fairly easy to make.
