Am I to assume that it get's filled like a differential, up to the bottom of the fill plug hole? Also, what have you guys been using to help the paper gasket seal? Last time i used gasket tack, I was going to lightly coat the gasket with some black oil/fuel resistant rtv.

Yes, fill to the bottom of the hole. I used Merc Perfect seal, but Hi Tack or RTV would probably work too.

In the body of the Mercruiser raw water pump that also holds the mechanical fuel pump there is a chamber with a small cam to run the fuel pump arm. That chamber is about half full of oil. It should be changed at least once a year. Some people use Merc gear oil and some use 30w, either seem to work fine.

For sure want to change it at least once a year. You wouldn't believe how diluted the oil get's even after 20hrs from the fuel. New fuel pump or not, the fuel still makes it into the resevoir. I have heard of some people drilling and tapping the bottom of the pump for easier oil drains. I personally just unmount the thing and put it on my bench and change stuff there. It is only about a 15 minute job to get that pump off as long as you have room to work.

If you have a mechanical fuel pump mounted on your sea water pump then you have it.

I looked at mine and see a plug to remove, but thought this was to drain the fuel that gets in there not put oil in. Do you have a picture of this? I have a Tech Manual for the 500efi and can't find any info regarding this..

My 2002 500efis only had the one fill hole so. I took the pumps off, drilled and tapped drain holes and now can drain and refilll right on the motor. My buddies 1998 era 500 (carbed) came with a drain already in it.
