Default 150 Amp Alternator in my 1991 Baja240 454

I bought this boat last year and finally decided to upgrade my sound system. I started having charging problems and was told it was my alt that i needed more amps. I had trouble finding a high amp alternator untill i came across MEAN GREEN HIGH OUTPUT ALTERNATORS. They are just getting into the boating industry and i sent them my alt and they build me a 150 amp...WOW... For $599 it was worth it its been over a month and no problems.

$600 for an alternator??????????

Run enough of the correct batteries and you shouldn't need it. Keep one battery for starting the boat and run the stereo off the others.

I mean how big a system did you put into a $5,000 boat ???? Normal working alternator on a 454 should have put out plenty of juice for 2 amps and 6 speakers with sub?? Hey chief that alternator is going to do you no good unless your running the motor anyway. Sounds like you got ripped off.

I guess I just have to question, how much juice your original alternator was working to begin with??? I may have been a little harsh earlier and for that I apoligize, but I had 8 speakers, 2 amps, and two 10" subs running off one battery stock alternator on a 1998 454 stock, and never had a problem, normally its the batteries that can't keep up, not the alternators.

If you are happy with it, it doesn't matter what it cost, I mean over half the chit I buy for my boats is over priced, but its what I want.

I would suggest in you getting a back up battery and jumper cables to cary with you!!
