Default Motor/sunpad hinge help!!!

So I have a 88 240 sport, and when I bought it, it didnt have the motor/sunpad attached, it was just sitting in there on 2X4s that are screwed into the fiberglass that support it from falling into the motor compartment. So I bought some eddie marine hinges, and after we cut the holes and mounted them and screwed them to the sunpad, the hatch will not open cause its binding up on the material. I want the pad to sit flush with the fiberglass on the top cap. Its almost like I need set up hinges that hing out first the up second. Any thoughts.??

Which hinges did you get from Eddie Marine?

Fwiw, my hatch uses hinges like this mounted on the top of the pad even with the deck:

I also have a 1989 240 sport with the same style of hinges shown and if i remember correctly there should be a spacer block that would mount between the actual pad and the hinge. If you are making a new sunpad do yourself a favor and get a sheet of 1/2or 3/4 plastic, it will last forever and wont hold water. It will work just like wood.
