Default *****Intake manifold question*********

Got a Volvo Penta 5.7l GL. Just pulled off the Intake manifold. It was an old Holley street dominator 300-1. Def the wrong intake for that motor since the 4 inner holes were drilled out to accomodate the the different angled bolts. (86-95 chevy small block, non-vortec) Question is.... If i am only running in fresh water, can i put another aluminum intake on? I have cast iron heads. I was told both yes and no. Tried looking for a cast manifold 4bbl and they are now obsolete. Also cant find an aluminum with brass inserts. Any help/advice would be appreciated. thanks

i have been running a edelbrock air gap on mine with out the brass inserts for the last 10 years,,,the intake passages are still mint..i also have a lifter valley baffle to keep the intake cool from the oil splashing on the bottom..

he has a non vortec engine so that intake wont fit at all..what he is referring to is the 4 inner bolts, the angle is different then the earlier designed Chevy heads..

I've been using aluminum without inserts for years in salt water. What I do is use epoxy primer and paint with a brush in the water ports after a complete cleaning before installing a new intake(won't work with a used manifold as there is aready corrosion) seems to fight of the corrosion pretty well.

your right. I did say that. When i pulled the manifold off the 2 center bolt holes on both sides were drilled out. Check it out. posted pics on photobucket. I heard there is alot of expanding with aluminum intakes with cast iron heads. Makes them leak. Still looking for a cast iron manifold for this.

Hmmmm....97% of the guys on here must have leaks...cause most of us run aluminum manifolds and iron heads. But what do we know ?
