Hi guys - I'm hoping someone on this board can give me some advice. I just got my 2003 cobalt 360 3 weeks ago. At the fuel dock - the port motor started knocking. Sounds just like a rod knock. The motor is a merc 496 (non HO) with 450 hours on it. Long and short of it - I pulled the motor and installed a newly rebuilt merc crate motor.

I am not familiar with the startup procedure for EFI motors. Can someone help me? How do I set the motor timing? How do I initialize the timing? I have fuel now, but no spark.

Any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You will need a Rinda tool to do final setup. have a merc dealer set it up and its all good!
