I've had that prob before. There are a couple different types of starter gears (or drives). I can't give you details cause I don't remember which is which. The same old story in this country, Not much is made here with pride anymore.

I have a spare starter in my boat if you want to try it. I just had it rebuilt for $45. There is a guy over on Alpine across from the old lear plant that rebuilds them inexpensively. He does all my starters and alternators. He is in front of the Butch's Total Car Care building.

That was my thought too. Or as said earlier, if something is prohibiting the starter from completely seating in its bore squarely.

Brad i do not have offshore mounts the mounts are bolted the trans i am running Twin Disc MG502 trans here is a pic
