I have done this a few times myself in sportfishers and once in a 27 foot center console with twin yamaha outboards. Most likely they will hug the coast somewhat and turn the 800 miles into close to 900. Fuel stops at Turtle Bay and Santa Maria bay (i.e. Mag Bay). If that boat can cruise for 400nm on a tank of fuel then this may be possible if they can avoid the mechanical gremlins. I guess they will need to truck down and barge out some racing fuel as the Mexican Pemex is not so bueno in high compression offshore marine motors.

The team is expected to have a couple of support/fuel boats staged along the way, including a sizable yacht and one of the Herbst brothers' boats. It will be interesting to see what happens. Supposedly there's going to be a huge party on the beach at the conclusion. That's where the tequila will come in handy!

FYI - I know you're all kidding about the OL boat not making it around LI, I assume the quad diesel boat?

I went there (OL) last week just to see the boat and what went wrong. I can tell you the problem was minor and easily solved. All in all the boat, drives, engines all did 100%, the drop boxes had a minor oiling issue. It was not unsimilar to issues the Gancia had at one point.

The Brits seen what was wrong are making fixes and mark my words that boat will be one of the strongest running endurance racers in a long time, in fact the only boat that can challenge Buzzi!
