Reading through other threads I can see some of the board members can be a tough crowd....
So be gentle with me while I ask your opinions on my build........
I have a 23' 1997 Scarab SCS, 454 Mag MPI that had unknow hours when I bought it, completly stock motor, it ran OK but you could tell it was tired so I decided to pull the motor, clean up everything, have it rebuilt and add a Procharger.
A little background, around here where I live is some of the best boating in the world, yes a little cold at times but excellent scenery etc.... problem is there is very little choice for parts, machining and specialty work and most importantly, information!!.....I have to do almost everything myself.....it is a little "remote" to say the least.
So I pulled the engine, stripped it down and took it to a local machine shop who specialize in auto engines but have done some marine stuff, they checked it over and gave it a clean bill of health for a rebuild. I supplied them with all the specs on the engine and told them I basically want it back to stock perameters, more or less.....
We decided to go .30 over with JE flat top pistons and rings, extreme duty exhaust valves and Scorpion roller rockers. Stock cam and crank are in excellent condition and we are aiming for 8.6 to 8.75 compression.....domed pistons are not available for this application so with a little head work we should hit the compression mark with the flat top...
I picked up a used M-1SC Procharger and intercooler and had to buy a few extra parts from Procharger to make it work for my application, basically half what new would have cost.....goal is 5lbs boost.....got the electric fuel pump and regulator bypassing the old VST unit and the raw water pump mounted mechanical fuel pump.
Cooling will be obtained via the pick-up in the Bravo leg, through a sea strainer, shut off ball valve at the transom, from the sea water pump to water pressure relief valve, through the oil, fuel and power steering coolers, into the block via a cross-over, also supplies the intercooler, and out the exhaust (EMI Thunder).......with intercooler expelling overboard...
Once the engine is complete I will be sending my ECM with all the engine specs to Mark Boos at PMEFI so he can work his magic and "re-flash" the ECM to work with the new rebuild and the Procharger....
I just realized I have typed a damn book here, sorry, if you are still with me at this point, I guess my question is, Can anybody see that I am missing something obvious or need to re-think any aspect of this.....?
I understand there are different thoughts on Procharger versus Whipple, cross-over or recirculating pump, thermostat or no thermostat etc........thanks for any input. Jeremy
PS> I would like to publically thank Mr.Fix for his input and help so far with this project, and no, I am not taking the ex back......

Looks like you are on the right track, I would call RMbuilder and have him set you up with a cam.
Are you keeping the Mag MPI intake?
Make sure they set the tolerance correctly on the mains and rods. Most car guys set them up to tight for Marine use.

Thanks, cam is good, apparently best to stick with stock if you can, helps with setting up everything else to work with the Procharger.....
Yes, sticking with Mag intake.....and yes, tolerance specs are accounted for.....

PS. Why do you think the "stock" cam is not a good idea?

Hey, you're not that far away! I do a lot of engines for guys over on the island and up the coast. Which machine shop did
you use? If it's the one in Nanaimo we should talk.. I've got three of their engines in pieces in my shop right now.. Either way give me a shout if you need any help. I have lots of procharger parts and mag parts and am a dealer for just about everything else you coul need. I can also help you get everything set up and dyno'd if you want. Alex 604-315-0570 I'm on the ferry now on my way home to Bowen Island..

My engine is with Chuck at Mid Island Engines in Duncan, he built a killer 383 stroker for me a while back, I have no problem with them, they listen.
They have a dyno but not really set up for marine application from what I can see, but what do I know...lol
I will give you a call tomorrow if that is OK? I am sure there are some issues I will need help with, cheers, Jeremy
