New System and New Speakers?
#1
I'm looking to upgrade my factory JVC AM/FM Cassette deck to a AM/FM CD deck. I don't need a changer.....I'm looking at JVC or Kenwood with a remote control.....I may put an external amp on later. Any suggestions welcomed! I need (4) 6.5" speakers also which is where I'm stuck. I like the Bazooka and Kenwood two way designs. I want to stay under $100 a pair. I only get to hear them 5 months a year on weekends. Any suggestions on what is built best....Mike.

i would diffently stay away from the kenwoods i have them in my boat know and have had nothing but problems. and am in the process of switching them out. i have narrowed my choices to mb quart2, poly-planar, are babbs and i am leaning toward the babbs. they do not make a 61/2 only 51/2 and 6x9's. good luck perhaps FWK or audiofn will chime in

CV-23,
I put a Sony cd player, CD changer and 4 6 1/2" xplode speakers in my boat a couple of years ago. I purchased the Sony stuff because their changers read 3 seconds ahead of what is actually being heard(I think their new stuff is 10 seconds) so they rarely skip. I have skipped the changer twice in 2 years! What I wasn't planning on was the sound of the head unit and speakers. Their 6 1/2" speakers rock! I know there are better speakers out there, but not for the price I paid for the Sony's($79 a pair I think). I liked the Sony stuff so much i just picked up a 10" dual voice coil Xplode sub and a 5 channel Xplode amp.

Having recently redone my stereo, I would suggest the MB Quart, man I have the tweeters and they rock, however their expensive. I have had good experience with Kicker marine also, Sony makes the coolest wired remotes w/ LCD. so go with the sony for CD,
My 2 cents

Check out the Clarion 6.5" coax if you want to hit your budget. That is a tough number to hit for a real good set of speakers. Clarion head units and Sony head units also have the wired remotes that work VERY well. Hope that helps.

I just put in 4 Kicker 600M 6 1/2" speakers that cost $97/pr. Sony CDX-ca660x head unit, Access Tech wired remote, 50 X 4 Clarion amp, Rockford 160a2 amp and a Bazooka 8" sub. The 600M's sound great, but I haven't really compared them to anything else. Just throwing out another sub $100 speaker option...

Thanks for the input so far!.....Keep it coming. Circuit City has a deal this week where they give you $60 credit towards speakers if you buy a Head Unit. I was also listening to Polk Speakers. The Sony is a great sounding speaker for the money but they made the grill smaller this year and I'm afraid of damage from skis etc....Mike.
