Got to the search box in the lower left part of the upper header. Enter "Insurance" and you will find threads on insurance. Also check into the OSO insurance sponsors that are flashing all over this page.

For the type of boat you are looking at, just go with your home and/or auto carrier.

Default Insurance For A Novice Boater

I agree with GRIFF,this is where a new boater should get his boat insurance and in fact is probably the only place that it would be available.

Give me a call and I'll go through some of the ins and outs with you. Your home/auto carrier isn't necessarily the best option. If it is a small/slower boat, there are plenty of marine markets that will write a policy for you on a starter boat for a good rate. 866-728-9757 ext 101

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to OSO, What you have already read on this page is very valid. If you have your homeowners/auto through a reputable company they may be able write a boat policy for you at a fair price; however as stacy said there are multiple markets for regular low risk boats that you may have more luck with, sometimes these polcies may offer different coverage options you wont find through your standard market.

One thing i will say is that you shouldnt always look for the "cheapest price". If you find a rate that is acceptable to you check in on the company, most importantly there financial strength and future outlook. You dont want to end up with a company that doesnt have the capability to pay a claim or defend you if a major claim does occur. reference: IWSF.

BTW check out turbojack's statement he knows whats up

Good Luck with everything!
