Need some QUAD advice
#1
I currently have a Honda 250EX - its about a 1988 I believe. I have a bunch of stuff with it (skid plates, extra sets of unused tires and wheels, etc.....). I was going to hope to sell all of it and get something a little newer. Was hoping to stay under the 2k range.
Some questions:
Are there any quads with both electric start and kickstart?
When did Fuel Injection become the norm?
Any thoughts on Brand/Models to avoid?
What about reverse? I have it on my current quad but can certianly live without it - any thoughts?
General input appreciated - never really done any research on quads, I just bought this one off the side of the road to get back and forth to by Brother's house which is about a mile away.

I am a personal fan of the Suzuki LT-Z400. It is an all around good quad. When I was looking, I had narrowed it down to the Suzuki and the Yamaha YFZ450. The Yamaha is set up as more of a race quad and I was personally going to do more trail riding, so I thought reverse and a little softer suspension would be nicer.
Just my 2 cents.
Oh, and my parents have a early 2000's Polaris Sportsman 500. That thing is a beast and would highly suggest that or the newer 700 or 800's if thats what you are looking for.

Greg - thanks for the offer. I will definitely take you up on it after I do a couple days of research so I at least begin to know what I am talking about.

That Suzuki and Yamaha look like nice bikes and something similiar to what I am looking for. What kind of speeds do the 400-450 size quads run? Compared to the Raptor 660's (these appear to be quite a bit more expensive)?
Are the 400-450 size quads going to be a nice jump from my older 250?

You can find a nice 400EX for right around $2k. Excellent handling (very similar in that regard to the acclaimed 250R), instant 4-stroke torque, bulletproof Honda reliability, endless aftermarket options, etc., etc.....
If you want a 2WD sport machine, I'm not sure there is anything more well-rounded for $2K then the 400EX.

I have a 2008 Suzuki 450, best four wheeler I have ever owned. I raced motocross for many years, took a break from the dirt in the early 2000's before I got this. Stock 4 wheelers when I left the sport sucked for sport riding IMO, I always thought guys were crazy to ride them hard and jump them...they felt heavy and not safe. After riding one of the new 450's I was sold in minutes, the change from your old wheeler is like comparing a 78 flat deck to a 39 top gun. I air it out on the mx tracks and it lands like a pillow.
660 vs 450- The 450 is the race class machine, the 660 is the sport machine. The 660 will have a slighty higher top speed, but honestly it is really hard to feel the difference in the power. My 450 with a few mods walks my buddies 660 raptor. The 450's are wider, ride better, and have better shocks. The 450s also share some parts with the MX bikes, IMO the 450 is the way to go. The power from a new liquid cooled 450 vs. your 400 feels at least double, ride one and you will see.
I got lucky, bought mine 1 year old. The previous owner bought just about every after market accessory you could buy, and then never rode it,,,,,he just polished it lol.

Yep - give or take (partially dependent on what I get for mine).
I like the looks of the 400EX's, and they seem to be pretty close to my price range. Certainly comfortable with Honda Reliability - my Honda motorcycles have been good to me.
