I am getting a boat (36 Skater) towed from Texas to Tampa area. When towing boats this size do you guys get wide load permits?

Good question.

Permits are way cheaper than the ticket. Plus the peace of mind knowing if you did have any kind of trouble/accident insurance can't deny you....at least for improper towing.

Search Mercury Permits. They are easy to deal with and cheap. BoatUS members get discount too.

I asked this question a couple of months ago and took some BAD advise and did not get the permit (towed 12 wide cat 200 miles). Trust me get the proper permits...most cops do not have a sense of humor.

Couldn't agree more! It's not worth the risk on a long trip.
8'6" is legal in most states. So you're pretty far over.

10' is considered "Oversize Load". You'll need a permit as well as a "Oversize Load" banner on the front of your truck and also hanging off the back of the trailer. also....you need red or orange flags on each corner of the boat hanging as low as you can get them. Some states also are now requiring red or oranges flags to be hung from the front bumpers of the truck and back of the trailer. .theres also a curfew you are able to be on the highway.

Not sure if you have to have a beacon light
