I am looking for a good marine surveyor in the PA/NJ line area to do a survey. Does anyone know of a good surveyor they would reccomend? The Boat is a 29' Fountain to be surveyed.

What is the survey needed for? Insurance purposes, or resale?

This is the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, an organization that only allows trained surveyors to be members. It also may be a requirement from an insurance co. that the marine surveyor be SAMS accredited. The above link will help you find accredited SAMS surveyors near you.

OK good. I hope it turns out well for you. That link I gave you should help you find a good surveyor. Remember that surveyors typically charge by the foot. If you want pricing, just ask them "how much do you charge by foot?" Then you'll know the lingo. :-)

I would like both. I want a very comprehensive survey.

I was wondering if anyone had either personnaly knew or heard of any in this area that are top notch. I did the Google search and have alot of info and names. I am looking for one who will do an excellent job.

Any suggestions or tips on what to ask for, etc would be great.

Well then, generally, you need 2 diff people. A "normal" surveyor will inspect structural, electrical, basic systems etc. They will VISUALLY inspect the engine and drive. You need a mechanical surveyor to get into the engine and drive thoroughly.

Are you doing it wet or dry?

I was wanting to have the surveyor inspect the boat on land and then put it in the water to have the running on water test done as well.
