Boat Hauler is ordered......now for a trailer.....??
Well I finally finished the paper work for my new 2011 Ford F350 Lariat.......should have it by Wednesday the 16th.......I will post some pics when she arrives........now the next step is to choose a new aluminium trailer for the Sonic.......
I know Myco is the leader but keep in mind I will tow 1-5 times a year at the most and mostly locally in Long Island/Upstate/New Jersey. Maby a Florida trip when the kids get older in a few years.....lots to choose from and lots of options too. What is everyones choice on....
...Manufacturer......Loadmaster,Ace,Rocket,All Star,All American,Manning, other ??
...Brakes.......electric, electric over hydraulic, surge ??
...Springs......Torsion, Leaf springs, or ??
...Wheels.......what size, how many lugs, etc,etc ??
...Frame.......C-Channel, Beam, ??
I appreciate any past experiences because I am a trailer novice and have never trailered before.......

I have an aluminum ACE. Terry has great service there, the aluminum materials are good but the back end of the boat is sitting on bunks that are extended beyond the trailer frame. This trailer does fine for me and the price was dirt cheap but I will buy a better trailer next time for sure. I prefer my drives to have some protection and the back of the boat to sit above the trailer frame rather than extended bunks.
To each his own.
Torsion axles are fabulous and well worth the extra coin, usually a $100 up charge. Tires live longer, trailer follows better, maneuvers are easier and never sways. The only draw back compared to springs is that the torsions have a forward thrust that bucks against the hitch on bumps whereas the springs are an up and down movement and don't buck the hitch on bumps.
