Default Uh oh. 106db. How to get to 86? Or at least 90?

I have stellings DRY (jacketed) headers, pic here:

What should I do? I really want to keep the headers, but I've seen people add on huge mufflers to the headers, and it looks god awful. Has anybody used a slip in/ insert muffler for a stellings? The tricky thing is the opening is not round, as the water exit pipe is about 1" in diameter, and comes out the back of the header. Pic:

Ideas?

i think imco makes some gatlin gun style that look cool, you may have to send the headers to them to install them..you can see them in this trend..

Yeah, but they don't provide any info on how much those things quiet it down. This is a budget build. I'm not spending any $ unless I know how many DB it will quiet them. Anybody have any PROVEN solutions?

I had dry Stellings just like yours (X 2). It was time for new exhaust and I didn't have 19K lying around to get new Stellings.... So I went with the Stainless Marine Gen 3 manifolds and custom tailpipes that introduced water into the tailpipe about 1.5 inches from the tip for half the price.

Before with the Stellings= 112db @ idle
After with the SM manifolds=108db @ idle

There are some inserts available, but I think that you may have a hard time getting down to 90db unless you put some donkey dick downturns on there. That'll look really stupid!

if your handy with a chop saw and a tig like i am make your own and save the $$$$.. they do work, ask the guy on river daves..if you dont want to hang those can muffs on the end then this is the only option if you want to keep those headers.

Is it just a bunch of pipes in a parallel path? Not sure how that would reduce noise. I was thinking about making something more like this:

Unless you mix the water in the mufflers, I doubt you will get down to 90db. I'm not sure if you would even be able to that since the tails on those headers look pretty straight and might cause reversion.

How do you mix water earlier?

If you get a clamp on style muffler, then water from the dump pipe on the inside of the header will mix inside the muffler. Without cutting the tails off and making them into a wet system, thats the only way I see it getting close to 90db.
