Default Baja or Fountain? Which one should I buy?

I have been boating for years but the go-fast boat bug has bitten me. So I am looking at the baja outlaw 29'-32' or the fountain 29'-32' fever. Single or twin engine, 454, 496, 502 it dosn't matter. On a trailer. 1996 or newer, $25000-$50000 price range. Maybe you own one or the other and can tell me both good and bad things about them. Posted on the fountain section too. Thanks

I have a 1997 29' Fountain Fever and a 1998 27' Baja Boss. My Fountain is currently for sale it has a 540 with 700 hp. Its a fresh water boat from Las Vegas " lake Mead' It has 50 hrs on it, If you wanna go fast, this boat will take you 90 mph. And the best part is it's only 34.900, with trailer. You can find it here on oso in the classifieds. or call 727-488-1970

I have owned a 1998 29 Fountain with a single 500. 1999 Baja 29 OL and a 1999 Baja 302 both with twin 7.4 MPI. All in your price range.

All are good boats. I would ask where would you use it? How many people you plan on having with you the majority of the time? Plan on overnighting? How fast do you need to go? Speed more important than room/ride? I'm assuming by your screen name you have an F350 so towing any wouldn't be a problem.

If you're closer to the $50K range, I would look for a 33 OL myself. It's a 35' boat and will cure 3 ft itis before it even sets in.

33 has more cockpit space than all 4. 302 has good cockpit room as well, more than 29OL and 29 Fever.
Fountain is fastest.
Either Baja will have a better ride and more room.

The Baja 29OL is more like the Fountain 32 in size. And the 29 Fever is more like a 26OL. Not bashing, but size wise, apples to apples here. I've been on all four boats, but not the 33OL. The room on a 29-30 OL is much bigger than on the 29 and even the 32 Fever. Also, in case you haven't noticed, there is a thread going on about 1 vs. 2 engines. Take a look, good reading. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/b...motor-2-a.html

The Fountains are faster, but less comfy in my opp. It all depends on what you want to do, I like Fountains, always have. Both the 29/30OL's and the 32 Fever are great boats, just different. Personally, I'll take twins over singles any day. You know what they say, "the bigger the better".

Happy hunting

I was in the same position as you in the beginning of 2010 with a cash budget at the same allowances.
I found that the more boats I looked at the more I realized that near 30' wasn't going to cut it.
I moved up to mid 30's and then settled in the high 30'ers.
I think a great boat that you could find at the top of your price range would be a Baja 342. They have the abilty to push mid 60's to low 70's with the right powerplants.
I ended up with a 38 because I hated the low headroom in the salon of th.ose other boats.
Good luck in your search, there are still some fantastic deals to be had in the used boat market, just take your time searching and post your questions here on OSO. The members are fantastic answering questions. I probably had more threads about potential purchases than any other member on the board and everybody was always helpful.

See ya,
Kelly

I have to admit, I agree with the feedback given so far. BTW, I have a Baja 302 and would love to move up to a newer 342. My friends 38 special seems like just to much for my taste, he moved from a Fountain 38 because he wanted more room. Another friend has a 33 OL and is very happy, I just want a windshield since I'm up here in the NW.

I would go for a 33' OL if budget allows, been on several and have yet to meet an owner not fully satisfied with their boat for the long term. Very roomy and comfy, HO's will have you easily in the mid 70's all day bone stock.

Happy Hunting

I found the Fountains way too small.
You cannot beat the room in a 33OL, thats what sold me on Baja.

Where else can you use a cooler as an Ottoman

Great Looking Boat... I love the 33 ol but i don't care for the metal tube swim platform they use...Always leads me back to the 342.
