Finally reached my goal of 80 mph in my 1995 24' Python. Original motor was a 365 hp 454 Mag and boat would run about 62. Replaced engine with a 540 that I built. Replaced steering with MM full hydraulic. The boat actually ran 83 yesterday and I am really happy with the performance. The boat is a rocket! As most on this sight know, it is a long and painful road to high speed, and I have learned a lot (the hard way).
I want to thank Bob Madera for the cam and the verbal help with my project. He really knows his ship!

How much hp are you running and what type/size prop? How did the boat handle at those speeds? I'm trying to get my 24 Python dialed in and I know I need a different prop but my motor makes about 500 hp. It made 450 hp and 513 tq on the dyno but I changed the heads from stock ported to 320 cc Dart square ports and a Edelbrock intake. 75 mph is more or less my goal but if I can get more out of this combo I want to.

I have not had the motor dynoed, but it should be around 625 hp. I am turning a 25 Mirage plus, thru a 1.5 at 5650 rpms. The full hyd steering made a HUGE difference in high speed handling and stability. I can let go of the steering wheel and the boat tracks straight--best investment on the boat!
