Default 232 hour meter

Looking at buying a 2000 232 islander, where is the hour meter? It's not on the dash. Couldn't find it in the engine compartment. Help???

When we had our 1997 232 Islander, I believe the hour meter was built into the Faria speedo or tach. If it's not there, it may not have one.

Not every boat has one and even if they do, you should not rely on them too much. There may be one in the engine compartment. If the engine is an EFI, a mechanic's computer can plug in and tell you exact hours and at what rpm's those hours were run.

When Baja offered the Faria gauges as standard, and the Gaffrig as optional the Faria had the hour meter in the tach, but the Gaffrig did not. Baja drilled a hole in the engine compartment for the hour meter gauge when the Gaffrig option was ordered. If a ower changed the gauges later on, or maybe Baja forgot to add that gauge?

The temp, battery, trim and oil gauge are Faria. The Speedo (gps) and Tach are Livorsi.

Sounds like a previous owner swapped out the tach and speedo. Merc scan tool is needed.

Thanks guys!
If I was to purchase and install an hour meter.....
1. Any suggestions on a brand/model?
2. Will it automatically set to the correct number of hours?
3. What does it hook into?
Thanks!

3. What does it hook into? Look for a set of loose wires under the deck in the engine compartment. Check if they are hot with the key on.
My answers in Red.
