Default JL 7.7 or 6.5

I am going to replace all the speakers and add 2-3 10" subs. All JL speakers and amps. Are the 7.7s considerably better than the 6.5s? I'm not crazy about cutting bigger holes to allow the 7.7s to fit the existing 6.5 holes.

Haven't picked out a head unit yet. I want a wireless remote so when its beached i can just aim it in the hatch and adjust. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys.

I bought the Alpine Type R 7" marine speakers and the extra 1/2" definitely changes the mounting options in my boat.

I don't know about the JL 7.7's but they definitely intrigued me. There is a pretty significant difference between the 6.5" and 7.7". That's about a 40% increase in cone area.

I have 7.7's in my boat, a buddy has the 6.5's in his. We both are running the JL 10" subs. Same boats. Mine has a deeper sound. His seems louder though. Both sound great, just depends on your preference

I have 6.5's, I like them. If you are running subs I dont know if you would notice the difference, just my opinion. I always get compliments on how well they sound.

F.Y.I. There is a difference between the JL M series and MX series speakers/subs. The M series is the better built.

I have a RF remote. No need to point at an IR pickup, and not effected by sunlight. Supposed to have a 100' range, but mine seems less. Crutchfield carries some. Or search the net
