looking for opinions on this boat. I am considering one of these as my next boat. What should I look for. I owned a baja and also looking at the 29 Outlaws too. How fast does the 312 run with 454 mags. anything to look out for?

I had a 1998 w/ 502's. I liked it but it was not a popular model (people stepped up to the 353 instead). Best my dream-o-meter showed was 78 but the GPS was reading 74. 70-71 was possible 90% of the time. The 454 mags will likely be 1-2 mph slower.

I researched the F-312 and B-29 extensively before settling on my 292. Two of my friends have Baja 29's with 454 Mags and I know of a 312, but with 7.4 MPI's. The bajas hit 70. The 312 tops at 63-65, all speeds gps. A formula 312 with mags should match or slightly beat the baja 29. The Baja is 6800# dry and rides alittle on the flighty side at top speed even with K-planes. The Formula is 8000# dry and is rock solid. It really just comes down to price difference, the two models are very close...I'd like either one, but am completely content with my 292.

I think if you compare the fit and finish of the Formula to the Baja the Formula will win out. I've seen a few 29 outlaws around the same age as my 292, and it wasn't even a far comparison. Of course a lot of it has to do with how you take care and maintain your boat inside and out, but I couldn't believe the difference.
A lot of people I talk to say the 312 was probably the best speed boat Formula ever made. Just a well built and solid boat all around.
