Difference between 2007 and 2011 GMC 3500?
#1
Hi guys,
I am looking at the new body 3500 duallys from 2007 and up to present. Do you have any experience ith these? I have 2002 today which I am very satisfied with, but I considder to change it for a new style truck. When looking at the SLT versions these seem to be very similar, and also when it comes to styling. Just a few differences in the front bumper.
Is there any reason not to buy a 2007 model year? They are a lot cheaper of course.
Thank you!!

Is it a 2007 "classic" or is it a 2007.5 with the newer body style? The difference between the 2 would be the Duramax. The classic has the LBZ Duramax and the 2007.5 would have the LMM. The LBZ is in my opinion, and many others the most desirable Duramax to date. The body styling is a bit dated but its a welcomed trade off to have the LBZ.
I won't be getting rid of my 06' LBZ for many many years.

And as for the 2011, I've drove one and to be honest the power gain from my truck to that one was HARDLY noticeable. Since the 2011 has a dpf filter and requires urea injection fluid that's all the reason I need to keep my truck.
I was also reading in my diesel mag, that the trucks from 2007.5 and newer are gonna see some extremely tough aftermarket performance changes and regulations in reguards to dpf filter and urea injection modifications. Sounds to me like replacing expensive filters and fluid systems will be the norm instead of "deleting" them when they fail you.
Just a few things to think about

Thanks!
I considder a 2007.5 new style and newer because I like the styling and dashboard etc. I just wonder what the differences is from the first "new style" to the one you get today...
Do both of them have exhaust brake?
What hps has the 2007.5?
Reliability.. Is there any difference here?
Interior.. They seem to be exactly the same.
Towing capacity. What are the numbers?
Is the new one quiter inside when pulling hard?
I want to make my next truck ride like a "Caddilac" with softer springs and shocks and add air bags and Sulastic leaf spring shackles. Maybe also lower it a bit. Put on 22,5 rims and get a "perfect" truck for both high speed cruising without load and in the same time be able to carry HEAVY loads safely with a stable ride.
All info greatly apprechiated.
Thanks.

I have been thinking about the big size tires myself and that they maybe ruin the ride smoothness? The only tires I find to fit my 19,5" Alcoas are very "heavy duty" tires and they have a load capacity of about 2.150 kgs which of course is ALOT more than I will EVER have on my truck. And since there are 4 wheels at the rear end, the ride is a bit stiff. That is what my tire shop tells me. I remember there was a guy here who had mounted Bilstein shocks and air bags + he removed one leaf and installed the Sulastic shackles. He said it was exremely comfortable...
Is it a bad thing to do when putting on 19,5 or 22,5 inch rims to these trucks? I just ask as I have never driven one with std wheels. I drive 30.000 miles every year with my truck and comfort is important even if we are talking a truck here..

2007 does not have the exhaust brake
2011 does not ride "good" like you are used to. The new GM trucks can haul and tow better then before, but lost the ride quality. IMO, the new Ford and Dodge ride just as good or better than the GM trucks, where it used to be the opposite way around.
19.5 and 22.5" will ride horrible, to much unsprung weight, to stiff of tires, just plain to hard on the truck. Only good for looks.
I have also removed my lower overload spring, added air bags, Bilstein shocks, and can barely, barely tell the difference while towing, empty it does ride better. (on my dodge)
