Finally bought a SKATER!!!!
#1
I sold my Baja a few months ago. I was bumming rides and restoring my small tunnel hull, when out of nowhere, I stumbled across a 24 Skater that I could not pass up.
I have always wanted a cat, especially a Skater. I never really got to climb all over one to see the quality and craftsmanship that goes into a Skater. Let me tell you, I was very impressed. I have owned several boats, but never one this damn solid!!!
As a proud owner of a new-to-me 24 Skater, I now understand how they have such an awesome reputation.

Anyone ever run a single engine (Pro Max 300 or 300X) on a 24 Skater? If so, what are the pros and cons, and will it do 90? What's the weight on a 24? I have a Pro Max 300. I don't want twin engines. I always wanted a 21 Skater, but I have heard some horror stories about the barrel rolling tendencies.

I had asked that same question a while back on this forum and someone had replied that Mercury has some rigged that way at lakeX for testing. I do not have any more specifics on performance though. Ironman.

My 24 has the original '87 2.4L 220 Laser EFI motors. They are bolted to the transom, I can't remember how many holes up on the clamp though, (I'll check tonight). CLE lowers with nosecones. Mazco 14.5x30" OS cleavers. I have a set of 15x28" Merc Lab cleavers I have not yet tried. I also have a LH 14.5x32" Merc Lab cleaver that I would like to try if I could find a matching RH.
I plan on re-rigging with 2.5 280's this winter.
Meanwhile, I am open to suggestions on tweaking more out of what I have now.

With my 1997 225 Promaxs bolted to the transom I can run 102 in perfect conditions. At the present moment I have six inch setbacks at the powder coater. When running over 90mph it uses excesive trim,so I'm installing 6 inches of set back.It probably needs more, but I can do six without buying new cables.I'm hoping for 4mph with this change.I'll settle for 3 though.
