I live in michigan and getting ready to get the boat out for summer. I just bought the boat last year and am doing first oil changes and drive oil changes on it and wondering what to run?? It is a 94 Scarab 29ft with twin 350 with alpha one gen 2 out drives. I like to buy my oil at walmart if possible because its cheeper but didn't know if they carry anything that will work or not this being only my second boat. Please tell me good brands and weights to run. Same with lower unit oil. I am planning on doing oil changes, drive oil changes, fuel filters.

I run castrol 20w50 oil in my 383 stroker in my mud/sand truck will this work?

boat engines work hard...buy the best quality you can find....i used to run 10w40 synt. in my stock sbc...for the drives,any good quality synt. gear oil will do the job.....good luck

Your going to get the myriad of answers specially on engine oil. Most people use the Mercury high performance lower unit oil, dont think you can find at walmart. Its not cheap about 10 bucks a qt and you need to buy at least 3 for each drive. Otherwise I think you can get away with any 80-90 or 90w gear oil.

Now for the engine. I know in my BBC in my 29 mer calls for straight 40 w. But I have seen people use 20-50 and 15-40

Personally I use shell rotella in the boat. 15-40w, its diesel oil but is certified for gas engines. And its 12-13 bucks a 4 qt jug at walmart. Diesel oil has lots of chit in it that good for engines. Many people use it on here, and frankly my oil was gold all summer long last year with no issues.

I used the Rotella and Delo varients in my Sea Ray with twin 454/340's. Oil was always perfect. Changed every 50 hours or so. Good stuff!!!!

whatever you do stay away from 5-30 or 10-30 you could probably get away with it in 350's but for the same price get heavier weight oils.

I use Quicksilver high performance gear lube in the outdrive and 15-40 rotella T in the motors. I have Chevy 350s hooked to TRS drives. Both products can be found at Walmart.

Ok rotella would be great if i could run it in my boat because i run it in me duramax

just make sure the one you buy is compatible with gas engines,as some diesel oils contain too much detergent and are NOT recommended for gas engines....read the label...check the rating

Shell rotella is. So is the Brand that starts with a D I think in blue bottle.

ok thanks yeah shell rotella is what i run in my duramax so im might start buying that in bulk lol
