Could any of you help me with prop selection? Im running a 79 banana with a 30" aluminum bracket and a 89 johnson gt 300. Im ultimately looking for top speed but would like to plane the boat fairly easily. Any suggestions?? Any info is greatly appreciated, thank you.

When you say 30" bracket is that the set back? That hull runs best in the 18"-20" set back. You will have ventilation occur when trying to plane off. With the use of a bracket you will want a thru-hub exhaust type prop. The best prop I ran on mine was a 26" OMC Raker. But again my was on a Porta Bracket at 17" of set back and it moved up and down. That was the set up I ran the season I won the worlds.

I overlooked that yours is a 1979. It will be heavier than mine so a 20"-22" pitch would be a good starting point. There are some other OMC V8 specific thing you should be aware of if you are going to hammer it offshore style.

I ran a Raker II for a short time and hated it.. that is why I went to the mirage plus. My 2008 had a 30" set back, I was going ot remove the swim platform and use a porta bracket that I pruchased for it. But sold it before changing it. also sold the porta bracket.

@Mrv8outboard - correction the bracket that is currently setup on my boat is a custom aluminum job that has approx 29" of setback. Would a 20-22 raker still be optimal for what im looking for? And hammering it offshore style is definitely on the agenda.

I never ran a Raker II. I ran the original Raker. If you could find one that was unmolested I would. Most have been tweaked and that is not a good thing. Mercury props are readily available with hub kits to fit them to anything. Make sure to torque the prop nut ! What are you doing about water pick up? Nose cone? Other?
