Default Towing 25 outlaw with a jeep JK

I have a 25 outlaw that I keep stored at the lake. I have to tow it less than 5 miles to the launch mostly a straight shot without any traffic lights or traffic. I know the jk is rated at 3500 pounds but I wonder how well it will do towing 6500 or so for just a couple miles. The trailer has working hydraulic brakes. I'm tired of paying for diesel for 400 round trip miles every weekend when I'm just towing it a couple miles.

What's everyone's thoughts?

I would do it, but thats me. Most on here will say its not safe, etc etc. But for such a short distance and small boat, you will be fine. Most SUV's are rated to tow 6500 lbs but the main reason the JK is not has to do with the soft suspension for better off road flexibility. The drivetrain, frame, axles, brakes are more then capable. Imagine all the lifted rigs with huge tires driving up and down rock cliffs in Moab utah!

89notch: What kind of tranny? You are most likely to smoke a clutch at the ramp if not careful.

if the 5 miles are slow roads with speed limits of 35 or less and boat ramp is not steep
you should have no problem if you have a brain, is it legal? nope but doable.. I use my Explorer 2door all the time to move my 6000lb Carrera 27 around the hood and from the ramp and back , in 4low it snatches it out of the water better than my big truck and with big rubber and brakes has no problems stopping it at the speeds around the area (25-35mph)
Yes guys on here will jump on you and say you need an F350 to tow a jetski , since I grew up when tow vehicles were the family sedan or wagon I grew up learning to tow at safe speeds and give myself room not at 80mph flying by traffic like most these guys do ..

How many tweens with bicycles are in those 5 miles?
How many toddlers with kickballs are in those 5 miles?
How many grandmas with 1982 Lincolns; that can't see over the steering wheel are in those 5 miles?

Just for everyone's knowledge; a JK is a Wrangler.

Nope.

Insurance stats show most wrecks happen within a few miles of home. Terrible idea if you ask me. I pulled a 20 ft Baja with a TJ years back. Had to use 4 low to get up the ramp and scary as heck to stop it. The boat would even pull it down the ramp sliding if you didn't creep it into the water. I did it for one season and then bought a truck. By the way, I was towing about five miles too.

Good luck!
