I just redid the gaskets on my 84 scarab hatches. I went with the weather resistant high temperature Santoprene foam cord. It can be found here. http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3552/=gte8pq
My hatches had 1/2" diameter gaskets so that's what I ordered. Cheap too!!

I bought 4ft from shrogen once and it was 28 bucks shipped for the hatch seal. Well my engine hatch needed it as well as cabin door, wasnt going to pay 7 bucks a foot for the same stuff that can be found out at Lowes or HD. Try there or a hard ware store. you can find the same stuff. The stuff I used from HD has held up great. with no leaks
