Default Need trailer info & pics from fellow 272 owners (or similar)

As discussed in the trailer section, I am looking at converting my roller trailer over to bunks. I seem to be changing damn near everything on this boat except "some" of the gelcoat, so why not the trailer rollers as well since I am doing the tires, rims, fenders, coupler, brakes, front post.... *sigh*..... as well.

So, with that being said, I would love some information on what the setups are and what works. What helps loading. How many bunks, how long, locations. What are they made from, best coverings.... All that stuff.

Yeah, over detailed engineer, so lay the info on me if you can please and thank you!

Brian

I did the same thing to my 242 trailer a few years ago I will look for the thread just measure right and you will be fine. You will need to have someone make you extra supports cross members for the front of the trailer to support the bunks.

Resurrecting this thread. After a bad experience today at the ramp, I am going to go ahead and go with bunks on the trailer. Not sure how I am going to do it yet, but I would like some input on what others have. I am looking at bunk layout, how many and how long.

Was thinking 2x lumber (8 or 10) on edge with HDPE strips lining the top instead of bunk carpet.

anyone have some measurements on thiers and/or pictures?

Brian,

Here are a few pics of mine from the rear that might help you with your thinking.

The pole guides help a lot...I cut them extra long to get the tops way above the sides. Mine centers up every time with out issue. Our hulls are very similar so figure the bunks supporting the hull at the first step down towards the keel inboard of both chines.

Hope this helps.

John

Yes that definately helps out. So you have one bunk on each side for the rear, and a set of bunks near the keel forward? Front ones look to be 8' long, back ones look longer? Also rear ones are made out of 4 x lumber. Maybe a 4x8?

Also looks like the rear ones are vertical sitting right under the outside strake. Makes sense doing it that way.

I have two side boards now that locate the boat side to side. Worked well yesterday. I was guessing that I was going to need two bunks on each side for the rear and one pair forward.
