I just bought a parts washer for my new shop. I have never had one before; always just used degreaser and brake cleaner. The shop I rented had tons of nuts and bolts sets that I need to put in organizers and I want to clean them up before storing them. What does everyone use in their cleaners? I have access to K1 and mineral sprits readily. Only issue with those is the oily residue they leave afterwards. Someone suggested doing a "dip" in a degreaser solution after the parts cleaner to remove he residue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I use mineral spirits then spray off with hot water. Removes the oily residue. Really works well.

Use mineral spirits a work, mainly because it's cheap and does a pretty good job.

Used to use Stanisol (sp?) at last job. Works 10x better. Not sure if that can be purchased by anyone. We had a service that supplied and changed out the cleaner every so often.

Sometimes the guys that go around to shops and service the parts washers forget there lunch money..........Just sayin.

I have my "dirty" parts washer serviced every few months by Crystal Clean (like Safety Kleen) with a degreasing chemical. It works great but smells like crap. We all wear gloves whenever we use it. The "clean" washer uses mineral spirits. I don't find it leaves a residue.We also use mineral spirits in a siphon gun to wash blocks, cranks, etc. Anything that won't fit in the washer.

nothin' cleans parts like a little gasoline.

Diesel fuel works well also. That's what I use in mine.
