Default What's the secret to keeping swim ladder covers on these things

Mine seems to loosen uip regularly from the pounding it takes. I am afraid if I reglass it I won't be gaining anything but a couple weekends til it vibirates apart again. Anyone got a plan?

That's my next project. I'm thinking of repairing the screw holes and using 5200.

I used 3M Automix 8115 panel bond on each screw and it has never come loose again.

Just went out and looked at mine. There's 20 screws fastening the piano hinge and none of them are loose. This is on a 1996 hull so guessing some adhesive like the others suggested would help. Same for the latches.

I changed the way the hinge was screwed to the lid because the screws had nothing to bite into. I cut a slot in the side of the door and inserted the hinge then I drilled holes from the hinge through the top and inserted small bolts with nuts on the bottom side under the hinge. The small bolts ( 4/40) I think are much stronger and look fine.

I wanna thank the board and Snapckracklepop for inspirining me to do something good to my boat. I can do this for anyone. It will cost more for the carbon fiber. I'm Not trying to take work from anybody . just looking to help out .

I don't think this will fly off in the future. My boat pounds hard on the swim deck at Idle. Here is some before, after and progress I am doing today..

Here you can see I have retained all the original gel coat on the outside. Also the original hole locations are intact. The outside you are looking at just has the dirt that was in between the hinge and the cover. Once that is cleaned up and buffed out, you will not be able to tell because I retianed all the original exterior Gelcoat
