Default I rented a new Chevy Impala...

I rented a new Chevy Impala...so you think ...ho hum. That's what I thought.

A week ago some idiot woman packed into my wife's Mercedes S500 and we are having it repaired at the idiots insurance company's expense. The most her insurance company would pony up for put us in an Impala while the 'Benz is in the shop.

I told my wife that I would give my F-150 a week off and I would drive the Impala...saving some gasoline in the process.

So I pick up a new 2012 Impala...fill it up with gas and off to work in Pompano Beach I go. I merged onto the Florida Turnpike and floored this thing not expecting much. Holy $hit...I wasn't ready for the kick in the a$$ I got from a 300+ horse V6 and 6 speed transmission in this rig!!! I zoomed right past 100 in no time and it was still pulling like a raped ape!!

After driving it all day Monday I started doing some research on this thing and read about "SDIS" Fuel injection and 11:1 compression ratio on 87 octane gasoline. This is the same engine that is also standard in the Camaro and the Cadillac CTS. I have not driven a Chevy Impala in five years and I must confess that I was amazed. The car leaves a lot to be desired comfort and handling wise but puts a smile on your face when you stand on it. I feels like about 6 seconds 0~60 and is very quick between 60~100...I mean really quick!!

If Chevy cleans this car up a bit with the styling and interior and offers this thing in an all wheel drive version this will be a very desirable package. They definitely got it right in the power department although....I hate front wheel drive.

If you get stuck driving one of these cars get ready for a surprise.

GM is back folks. Any BMW, Lexus, Mercedes owners I encourage you to go drive a CTS or a CTS V series.

Not only will you like the price tag better but also the sensation you get from a fully smashed right pedal.

Rented a camaro 2 weeks ago while in Vegas/havasu for desert storm, What an awesome car!

It to only had the six cylinder but it had some serious sack! I could see owning one and still getting decent highway mileage! Beats my 07 avalanche at 17mpg on the highway!

I have a friend that has a Camaro SS that I have had the pleasure of playing with so I can well imagine a Z06.

What kicked me in the head was 300+ horsepower from a N/A V6 that freely revved past 6500 with no problem...that's territory that's been reserved in the past for the high end German stuff.

Seriously...a friggin Impala that stickers for $27K and runs like $50K...are you 'effin kidding me?

Ladies and gentlemen...American Cars are back and we are kicking some serious A$$!!!

I came within a divorce close to signing the pink slip for a 2006 Z last year... AMAZING car, and yes, I ran it through its paces... Wife DID agree to a 2001 28ZX which got me into a boat. Now i need a garage for the boat - also the place where a Z06 will be hidden once the boat is paid off!

I have a buddy who bought a 340 Ferrari like this, then asked for forgiveness when she found out!

What I want to know is how was everything else besides the drivetrain? I owned a lot of 1998-2002 GM/Chevy/Oldsmobile products back in the day. The only two that had anything I liked about them were the powerplants (Isuzu and LS1 motors in them). Melted intakes, hub bearings going out, continued marker lights burning out, stereo button lights going out, tailgate handles falling off, rattled after 60k miles, radiator leaks due to core seperation, and the list goes on for a long time...

I've been buying Toyota/Lexus products ever since and have been happily amazed at their reliability. I need more towing capacity than my Tundra has and I love the Duramax/Allison combo but I'm gunshy to buy another GM after being burned on 5 vehicles in a row by them before...

My Tahoe has 162k on it right now with NO big issues (yet). One fold-in mirror motor, one visor mirror, and a chevy badge. I pulled the boat home over 800 miles over the Appalachians with no problems. I wont buy another brand, period.

My only hangup with GM cars is the interior. Look at a Corvette interior compared to a similar year Porche, BMW, Mercedes. Like looking at a Geo Metro vs Cadallac.

I always wanted to build a 6 speed XLR though. Great car, doesnt handle as well, but great looks and pauche!

A friend of mine got a 3/4 ton GMC Sierra Classic or what ever ...suicide rear doors but good room for 4: adults. got the Duramax 700 lb ft torque with Allison 5 speed transmission...4 x 4. The truck is a bullet on the street and he tows a Baja 38 Outlaw with it...twin 502's / Bravo I's. Truck is a champ at the boat ramp and would climb a tree if it had enough wheels on it. What is amazing to me is how plush the leather interior is. I drive a F-150 King Ranch and the interior on his GMC is every bit as nice as mine...and quiet. The big diesel pulls away from a dead stop like a drag racer...very snappy...runs up to a hundred with no effort!!!
