GM 3.0 L4 Piston ring difference

GM 3.0 L4 Piston ring difference
I am in the need for some pistonrings for a GM 3.0L L4.
It is a Volvo 140 from 1995/1996. it is exactly the same engine as the 3.0LX from Mercruiser.
Starting at about 1990 till now the part# for the mercruiser rings is 39-17464. The top and second ring on the piston have about the same inner and outer diameter(width). But these new rings(17464) are different. The top ring has a larger inner diameter(less width about 1mm) than the old one, so I have a lot of back clearence.
I checked the pistons with some of a old 1996 Mercruiser 3.0LX, and they are exactly the same flat top pistons.
So if I order new rings for this 3.0LX am getting something different than it was fitted from the factory.
It doesn't feel right to fit them.
Please any advise.....
