My impeller completely smoked- no vanes left. I have no idea what happened but here is my question. I now have parts of the vanes in my cooling system. How do I get these pieces out? Can I back flush the pieces out? Should I take off hoses? Does anyone have the schematic on the circulation of the water to the radiator? I'll be buying the manual very soon. Thanks for any help!!!!

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...28Sea+Water%29 the water flows from the soft hose on the sea pump,to the hose on the heat exchanger, there are two hoses at the heat exchanger one goes to headers, you want the other hose to back flush with...put your garden hose in the hose at the heat exchanger, have a bucket at the soft hose of your sea pump,,turn garden hose on and watch for old pieces of the impeller,,,anyway this should allow you to justfollow the hoses and backflush

I had the same thing happen to me, keep track of the pieces so you know if you got everything. I just used my hand to seal off the garden hose so too much pressure wouldn't build up. My oil cooler caught most everything.

I had the same problem, had to pull the hose off the oil cooler and fish pieces out that got stuck. The holes in my oil cooler are pretty small, maybe 5/16. Beyond that the smallest opening is at my headers, about a .040 to .060 gap between the collector and water jacket that introduces the water to the exhaust stream.
