Thumbs down Don't let it happen to you

Well it's been awhile, here's an update of my situation. The short story is that I walked away the loser. Both my dealer and Baja are the winners of this particular battle. I went to small claims court and won but ended up having to pay over $600 out of my pocket to have my boat fixed right.

I'm not posting this to bash anyone (although I've earned the right to) but I do hope what comes around goes around. This is all factual information. And since I went to court over this I don't mind naming names. My dealer was Ocean Outboard of NJ, in Point Pleasant, originated by Mike Geonotti. Ocean Outboard of NJ is no longer in operation, it is an active corporation however. Last I heard, Mike is at a dealership down in the barnegat area.

All I can pass on to others when buying a boat in general is beware!! Don't let words satisfy your concerns, demand action. Oh yeah and avoid going to court unless absolutely necessary, it makes for a quick enemy. I didn't get paid but I made my point, and it's only money anyway.

The boat runs great BTW

It's a long story. My boat had hull voids and no one wanted to take responsibility for the repair. The boat came from Baja and sat on the lot at Ocean Outboard of NY till I bought it from Ocean Outboard of NJ. After delivery I noticed the voids and some cheesy bondo work. OO of NJ blamed the factory or OO of NY for the damage, but agreed to repair it anyway. The repair job was horrible, my excrement could've done a better job. That's when I went to jack ebersole at Baja for direction. He told me to get an estimate and repair it so I did, but then he decided to tell me about some authorization number I needed. Since I was never told about the # and of course didn't have one they wouldn't reimburse me for the repair he told me to have done. Months of missed phone calls and promises went by and eventually no one took responsibility for the defect becuase the repair was botched by my dealer. So I went to small claims against OO of NJ with a negligence case, and won.

Maybe there were too many people involved for it to be clear who should pay for it? There was the factory and two dealers pointing fingers at one another. I wasn't in a winning position from day one. OO of NJ turned their back on me because I told teambajamarine.com the truth about the dealership. They were lazy, lacked communication skills, and were sales oriented. Even so, it's too bad they went under. They were the only Baja dealer in NJ.
