Default Trailer tire monitoring systems...

Is anyone using them?

We are getting ready to do some trips and I'm wondering if anyone has used these....and if they work. Some do tire pressure and temps, I figure that it can't be a bad thing if they actually work!!

I do like the concept, but it does it does not mitigate the need to check your hub temps as well. I just use the laser pyrometer at every stop which I try to make sure happens at least for a temp check every two hours.

I may be wrong (Hey, it happened once ), but if a hub is getting hot there will be a temp change which will show up on the monitor. At least that is what they advertise!

If anyone needs one of these, It would be you Brian!!

I'm just wondering if anyone has used these and what brand works well. I'm definately going to buy one...

Your bring up a strong point. I wonder how long it would take for a "hot hub" to permeate through the wheel to where the TPMS is mounted. I'm curious to how they measure the temp. A hot tire due to a broken belt or low pressure would probably show a higher internal air temperature quite quickly. I don't know if a hot bearing/hub would show up in time to do anything about it before failure.

OK, I guess that I'll be the guinia pig here and buy one.

This looks like a good choice from the info that I've been able to find. I called and talked with a tech person and they said that this model would be for a boat trailer (water submersable):

http://www.tsttruck.com/RV_Tire_Systems.html

I figure WTF, it's an hour of boat fuel costs for the whole system. I'll let everyone know if I wasted my money or not...

OK, so just an update. I bought the unit from the post above.......and it's the coolest phucking thing since the invention of Playboy. Well, maybe not that cool...

You put a sensor on the valve stem of each tire on the trailer and then program the serial number of that sensor into the monitor that stays in the truck. The display shows the air pressure and temperature of each tire and where on the trailer that tire is. The display has a picture of the trailer and the tires and switches every 10 seconds or so and shows that tire. I can just drive down to where the trailer is now and plug the display unit into the cig lighter and it shows me the pressure of each tire. It's pretty cool, the side of the trailer that the sun is shining on will have a higher temp showing up.

Very cool kit!! My only concern would be submerging them in water? The website says it can handle rain, snow, heat but doesn't say anything about being water tight? Did you talk to them? Do you know if they are waterproof?

Thanks
Jim

I did ask them before I bought it and they said no problem in salt or fresh water. The trailer has been submerged six times (in salt/brackish water) and they are still working. Time will tell.....

Old School

What is the frequency of update and how long from when you first roll out does it take to get a signal to the reader?

Does it monitor pressures sitting?
- or does it wake up after 10 minutes rolling to tell you you are low?

Any idea about battery life? (just curious)

I need a 10 tire deal myself and am in the market for one of these.

Thanks

Uncle Dave
