Default Hydraulic Steering versus my exhaust

Hey gents, I have a weird question. I have a single ram imco setup on my 2000 Nordic Heat. The exhaust on this model year was under the deck, straight out the transom. I have the silly little flapper on the exhaust to prevent reversion. The cylinder is mounted starboard of the drive and sits rather close to the exhaust. Close enough that the flapper will actually flip up on top of the cylinder. Question being this: is it possible to run a spacer between the mount of the cylinder and the transom. I realize the geometry dynamics will have to change ( my head says farther out from the exhaust port since the arm is going to be pushed back from the transom). What sort of effects would this have? Has anyone ever seen something like that? Should I tell my OCD to shut up and save up for a twin ram? She runs fine, I have seen no adverse effects of the exhaust heating the steering or anything. It just looks trashy to me and I would have never installed a setup like that. Thanks guys.
