Default Boat sits 8in off trailer??

I have a tandem axle MYCO trailer for my 88' Formula 311. The axles are rated at 6k each with 8 lug 10 ply rims and tires. I was told from a member on speedwake.com and confirmed by a member here that my transom should be resting on the bunks not hanging over. I am going to move my winch up 8in to move the boat forward to start, I'm just worried about tongue weight because the tongue seems heavy enough already. It doesn't make the truck squat just impossible to move around by hand when lining up the hitch, I basically have to be dead on.

Anyone have this same setup? I'll post some pics as soon as I get to a PC. Wish I could up load from my iPhone.

I had to make similar mods to my trailer and tongue weight is still within specs. 8 inches is a lot though and I don't think you can do it. Maybe you can move the bunks back.

It's not a 311, but the 271 sits on the bunks all the way to transom. Bunks however sit about 10' past last cross member. Could you split the difference; bunks back 4" and then winch forward 4" or any combination.

I think someone might have moved the winch back because the eyelet for the safety is is behind the winch instead of infront of it. Is it trial and error or is there something I can do to tell if I need more bunks, what's also wierd is my bunks are on 2x4's. 4 in the back and 2 up near the bow. Here is a pic of where the bow sits now on the trailer with the way the winch was when I bout it. The center bunks are 7.5" off the transom and the outer bunks are 8.5".

Make sure you don't get TOO much weight on the front tire. If it's taking too much of the brunt of the weight you could see some issues on a longer tow (you know heat build up in the bearings or tires).

ideally none of it sits off the bunks, but I would think a few inches wouldnt hurt, but 8in seems like alot. But like others have said I would be careful moving it to far forward.
