I have some switch on top of the trans( Merc trans), Is this just Neutral safety of a shift interrupt switch ????

Should be a netural switch. It stops the engine from starting in gear.

Lot of time the shift control at the helm will have a neutral safety switch in it so the one on the trans is not used.
