Default What is Illegal Are we breaking the law towing these boats?

I read few post in the past couple of days about being over wieght with centian trucks and trailers. Has anybody been stopped by Highway Patol or state police/trooper and been told their tow is to long or to heavy for the license they carry? Now I have a Class A License with Hazmat I had to renew and take the Hazardous Matrials test again then after fueling all my tanks on my 47' I looked at the pump and by Cali state law I should have......................ready for this Placards on my trailer! like this one 1203 any flamable liquid:

Sounds like they have nothing better to do then bust your stones. With all the crime and people driving above posted speed limits by more then 20 mph.The boats should be the last prob. on hwys, unless of course you hauling at 80 +mph.(I think you value youre lic. more then that.)LOL anything to make a buck!

65 ft limit here in VA. My 382 and 4 dr truck measured 67 ft. I had regular passenger vehicle plates on my dually due to tax purposes, never stopped checked for either. I also bought/resold a number of express cruisers I hauled to VA from SC, OHIO, NJ, FL, and occasional local tows. These were all 9.5 to 10.5 beam boats and never got stopped/checked.

I seem to remember a buddy with a black thunder got stopped and had to leave his trailer on the side of the road to get his plates rated for his rig.....but need to verify.

Best I can tell, most of us are illegal (speed and trailer lengths):

Here's a sample from BoatUS:

MA
Maximum Speed Limit: 55
Maximum Dimensions for trailer:33'L x 8'6"W x 13' 6"H
Maximum Length with Trailer:N/A

CT
Maximum Speed Limit: 55
Maximum Dimensions for trailer: 45' L x 8'6"W x 13'6" H
Maximum Length with Trailer:60'

ME
Maximum Speed Limit: 45
Maximum Dimensions for trailer:45'L x 8'6"W x 13' 6"H
Maximum Length with Trailer:65'

NH
Maximum Speed Limit: 45
Maximum Dimensions for trailer:48'L x 8'W x 13'6"H
Maximum Length with Trailer:48'

RI
Maximum Speed Limit: 65
Maximum Dimensions for trailer:48'6"L x 8'6"W x 13'6"H
Maximum Length with Trailer:60'

You guys with the Fountains have to add a few feet for the beak!

if I remember correctly . . . the placards are only if you are "dispensing" fuel from the boat, not if it's just loaded for the water

Maybe Texas but in CA the placards are there to let emergency responders/HAZMAT crew know what kind of hazardous materials are at the accident scene god forbid there is one. CA only measures how much is carried on a vehicle, but by the same token they also say I only need placards if I'm being paid by a commercial distributor. So yes im carring too much Flamable liquid but not for a commercail company lets hope a judge buys it!
