Default New Gaffrig Gauges

I put all new gauges in my 95 Avenger and I assumed the old ones were the orignals. The Oil Pressure & Water Temp. gauges do not work. When the the ignition is turned on they peg all the way to the right. All my other gauges work fine. I did purchase new senders for the Oil Pressure gauges, but not for the Water Temp.

Any thoughts????

Almost sounds like they are receiving a ground...what happens once you start the engine?

Are you sure you hooked them up correctly? (just asking)

like he said...those wires have to be connected the right way, or they will peg to the right...ask me how i know..

I'm pretty sure they are wired correctly, I did one gauge at a time and verified with the one still originally wired. When I start the engine, the gauges remained "pegged" to the right. The only thing different on these gauges was how the light was hooked up. I ran a jumper wire from the ground for the gauge to the one side of the light. I wouldn't think this would be an issue???

Your guage and sender are a simple series circuit; power into the guage and the 'return/ground' out of the gauge runs through the sender which is a variable resistor ultimately grounded via the engine block. The lamps need their own ground...not tied to the 'return/ground' between the guage and sender.

Hope this helps...

Angry

I pulled the ground jumper wires today (from the gauge ground to the light ground) on all 4 gauges. Started both motors up to winterize and still nothing....the oil pressure gauges still pegged to the right, but now the temp gauges are at zero instead of being pegged right. Looks like this will be a spring project!!!!
