My cousin lives in Malta, and I have never been on lake George before so I thought it would be fun to go down for a long weekend this summer when they have one of the fun run/ poker runs. I live near ogdensburg and do all of my boating on the st Lawrence, so I always catch the June and August runs here, but only as a spectator. Entering into one of those runs would be like bringing a knife to a gun fight!!

I agree....unless you have somer serious 35' or larger hardware, 1000 islands poker run is not wise for participating. Be like the rest of us and watch on the water along the route. I am from rochester area, Seneca lake poker run is fun and did it this year. Boats from 18-20' up to some 40' are in this run and fun atmosphere for family. Check out ROPA website....rochester offshore power. We will be doing it in 2013 in our new boat.

There are no poker runs/fun runs on Lake George. They do run a "demonstration race" in May before the season kicks off, but other than that be prepared for a 45 MPH speed limit and 90 db limit. I have been kicked off with ticket in hand in 2 of my boats(DB's both times). If you are over the db limit make sure to stay out of the south end(LG village)

I talked to my cousin this past weekend. He said he has a few friends with donzi's/ bajas that say as long as you stay away from the village there shouldn't be too much trouble, and that there plenty of other destinations other than the village. I think they generally launch up in Bolton landing. There has to be people around with power boats. I know the one marina had quite a few for sale last year when I was shopping.

This is a great lake to boat on. Lots of experienced performance boaters with some serious boats on this late. Yes, technically, 90 db and 45 MPH, but the latke is 32 miles long and if you stay away from the south village, no one should bother you unless you do stupid things like run through the narrows (a bunch of islands) speeding. That is just not safe and that is what the police worry about. You may get a ticket on the south end over 60MPH when there is very busy boat traffic, but not on the north end. Also, be careful around bolton landing, another busy place to be aware of.
Responsible high perf boat operators have fun on this lake. If you are new to high performance boating, take your boat to the NJ shore or Long Island to learn how to handle your boat...not Lake George.
I have seen triple digits on my boat (120's) many times on this lake and only received one ticket many years ago because i gave a policeman attitude when doing 85mph. My bad....lol the ticket does not go on your driving record so it is a sort of tax...like everything else in this country.
Any questions, just ask
