A friend bought a large yacht and wants his 20,000# lift out of the way. I could put it next to my current lift for use on the additional boat we buy in 1-2 years.
An eBay seller list a used 20,000 lift for $5,500.
Assuming the lift is in average condition and I have to arrange removal, local transport and installation, would $2,000 be good? What price would you think I should pay a friend so I don't seem like I'm taking advantage of him?

If I'm not mistaken, they sell new/installed for around 15k-20k depending on the brand. I assume it's a four motor lift? Since you will be removing it I would say a fair offer to a friend would be around 5k-6k, if the lift is only a few years old.
I should of asked.....are the beams Stainless Steel or Galvanized as that will make a difference?

I got my 15K lift in a similar way. The guy needed it gone. I gave him $750 and paid to have it removed from his house. Keep in mind that you will need four pilings installed (that cost me $2,000) and pay for the lift people to install it at your dock, whick I think was about $2,000 by the time we got the bunks right and all of that stuff. In the end because it was less than half price vs. getting a new lift...

Wow, they have come down in price. OldSchool, nice find as it sounds like you got a great deal. LaughingCat, OldSchool brought up a good point about the pillings. Do you already have the pillings in place? If not, you may want to check to see if you can get them installed. Not sure how Florida laws are, but Maryland has really cracked down on marine contractors. A lot of them will not drive pillings anymore without permits so you have to be sure you can find a contractor to do the work and ensure you will be able to get a permit if need be. Just my two cents.

Hi LastCall,
Definitely need a permit. Will get 4 new = $1,000. Might have them drive a few extra and square my dock off while at it.
My friend is out of town until the weekend. Won't know make until then. Might drop boat in water and do a drive-by one afternoon this week. I'm inclined to offer maybe 2k for it. Depends if it is quality, like Pro-Lift or Davit Master and in good shape.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I appreciate it.
