Power steering fluid question??
#1
Has anybody run ATF fluid in their power steering system. I just had external steering put on and they added tranny fluid in the system. Just wondering if I should leave it as is or flush it out and put in the power steering fluid thanks.

ATF is the best way to go. But you also can use regular Motor Oil. I owned a few Cabs and the Mercedes Benz Pump sometimes leak a little bit. In our garage we use regular motor oil it is mucjh cheaper than atf and works as good as atf.

WTF...your pump will run HOT as all hell!....AFT is NOT the same as PWR steering fluid...yes use ATF in your boat....don't think you can get away w/it in a modern day car and run at hi speeds...u WILL melt the plastic res. right off!
just FYI! i know a thing or 2 on this subject!

Motor oil? That sounds a little thick for steering to me.
A lot of people run ATF in their steering systems. I was told to run "clear" power steering fluid in my external system. ATF won't hurt it but they said the power steering fluid will "respond" a little quicker.
