The Answer: 4.5 qts of oil in eng bay!!

Well, the jury is in.....I did not have to do a compression or leakdown test.......I wrapped a rag around the dipstick as a telltale for this....I started it up, pulled out of the slip....idled out of the no wake zone and slowly started to feed the power on. I got to about 1500 rpm under load and lord have mercy.....knock, knock, knock.......a hollow knocking sound out of the port engine. I shut it down & went back to the slip, opened the engine bay and found oil on the dipstick rag.... I put a fan in the engine bay to accelerate cooling of the engines. I removed some of the air intake tubing for the Prochargers to gain access, then I was able to remove and inspect the plugs one at a time ( a new set installed in June).... each step of the way, every part that was removed, had oil inside of it, the blower, the tubes, the throttle body, everything. Every plug looked oil fouled to a degree, except for #5...... the spark gap was nearly closed and the ground electrode was bent to the side. We looked at it under a light & magnifying glass......and found aluminum!!$#@^%&*((*^%#$# I cannot believe this.... Arizona Speed just did a top end "refresh" on this engine less than 10 hours ago!! I hate injectors!!! Give me the old carb's anytime.
Looks like the summer is "blown" for me now.......
I'll have to finish it on a 90hp Pontoon boat!!

I am thinking you have 2 problems. If you have oil in the procharger & blower hose, then the procharger seal gave way & letting the engine air intake see oil. My guess from what I am reading is the procharger oil seal let loose. Causing oil to be pumped into the motor. The air having oil in it will cause the motor to start detonating. Thus your second problem of messed up plug & very likely a broken piston, very likley with a hole in it. You may also have some tuliped valves. From what I am reading I do not think Az. S&M or being EFI had anything to do with this problem.

Turbojack..... the oil was coming out the dipstick tube & thru the starboard rocker breather tube. This tube is fed into the inlet to the Procharger. The Procharger sucked to oil up from the breather & "processed it" thru to the throttle body. I saw no evidence of any oil IN thew actual intake ports, so it is unlikely much was injested. The plugs were black...yes....but soaked in oil? No. Besides the engine was cool (under 100 degress), and the rpm never exceeded about 32-3600 cruise. There were no "hot runs" done.
That at least would be understandable.
I do not believe the Procharger seal blew, there was little oil in the intercooler. I will know more next week after we get the engine torn down, until then, it shall remain a mystery.......
EXCEPT for the FACT....the fuel pressure was fluctuating on this engine.... & Friday I found out that Procharger was recalling the blue top fuel regulators they provide for a defect- fluctuating fuel pressure. This seems like a GOOD candidate for the cumulative cause.......

Blown Formula, I just got your PM today and was sorry to hear the news. What's the deal with the plug gap? I never thought to ask you about the regulator(fmu). I assumed that yours was an Aeromotive unit like mine(red). I was told years ago that the blue fmu's were junk for whatever reason.
Keep us posted on you progress and finds! If you feel like driving to Pa. let me know-we'll rip on my boat for the Summer.

Thanks baja & checkmate.....the fuel pump is Aeromotive....the regulator is one provided by Procharger (unknown manuf) that mounts on the fuel rail under the intake. That is the part that is defective & recalled. I am now thinking about just replaceing BOTH engines with some 502's with aftermarket cam's & carb's. No more burned pistons! Just too many things can go wrong with EFI to burn stuff up that gives no warning until it's too late to fix it. Unless you have a code reader & look at it every day!! My carb'd Procharger had a Mallory reg & a back-up Aeromotive reg that was red......who knows, maybe this will work out for the best.......Heck, I'm still trying to get the boat titled in Oklahoma after it living in Arizona,,,, another nightmare. Fedex is killin' us!!

blown formula,
I am sorry to hear of your dilemma.. I have been in the bad luck column.. for two years. I have finally made some progress. So take a deep breath and sit back and reassess your situation.. I know it is hard to do, but in the end you will be able to enjoy and rid your self of the bad memories..
Good luck.. one day at a time.
