Any Ideas?? 4 QTS oil sprayed in bay!!

Ok here's the deal.....again I was running at about 3000-3600 rpm for the mile to my dock.....port engine was running 600 rpm higher than starboard with same throttle setting....reset to balance them. All gauges showed correct pressures and temps. Everything had been fine up to that point all day. Docked the boat, lifted the hatch and saw spots. Looked closer & saw the bottom of the bay full of oil! The starboard side of the port engine was sprayed very heavily with oil. the port side...nothing. I wiped everything down, checked for oil leaks in valve cover or vent grommets....nothing. cleaned up the mess, refilled the engine (4.5 qts!) and ran it at 2000-2500 rpm for about 2-3 minutes. not one drop of oil came out anywhere. the engine idled smoothly, accelerated fine (no load). I have not taken the boat out again but I want to find what this is!! This is a '97 454Mag efi with Prochargers. When I restarted the engine the fuel pressure also dropped to 30# from 45# (this is the second time for this !) and it was fine earlier..... these problem seem to be plaqueing my port engine only (rebuilt by AZ Speed 10 hrs ago, but it's a long way to AZ from Oklahoma!!
Friday, 1st thing I am going to check the plugs for any residue (aluminum!!) Ouch!! Do ya' have any other idea's for me to check??? Please !!

i would check the starboard engine for a leak in the oil pressure sending unit, and where the remote oil filter lines connect to the block. sounds like oil is escaping somewhere on that motor when under high pressure, and showering the other motor. The reason i say the sending unit may be loose is because of your guage readings.

hi-perf-2000, that sounds logical BUT....the oil level is fine in the starboard engine, the pressure fluctuation was in the fuel pressure not the oil pressure. Also, the starboard engine had no oil spatter to speak of (whirlwind effect I guess). The engine was warm (110 degrees) when this happened.....what are the chances of an oil cooler having a crack that only opens under higher oil temp & pressure??? Ever seen this?? We got a start here guys, keep it coming!!

How hard is to pull the off the engine hatch? I would pull the hatch, clean up the engine compartment and engines and run the boat again with a buddy looking inside trying to pinpoint the leak. Get the oil leak fixed and then address your fuel pressure/RPM problems.

Guys, maybe I didn't make myself clear here!! This was a SUDDEN loss of oil, not a leak!! 4.5 qts in 1 mile!! @3000rpm, can't see a drop or drip now.....so where could it come from???

A pin hole in a high pressure oil hose can leak out a boat load (pun intended)of oil while under load. Be sure not to overlook that, happened to another board memeber last summer while we were out on the River. Motor had about 5 hours on it from the install date. We treid like hell to find the leak. Bilge was atleast 3-4 quarts full in about 20 minute run. Obviously needs to be chekced at temp and while running under load.

Blown Formula,
I think your onto it with the heat issue. I don't know what type of oil coolers you are using but as things get hot, a crack or fitting could open up and leak quite a bit under pressure. My Stock cooler is made of copper I think and that stuff has high CTE's. I had a friend who had an issue with one that had residual water that froze up over the winter. He didn't find it till mid summer. Check all sending units as well.
Oh Yeah...Check the seal on the cover fitting for the remote oil filter lines where it mounts down low on the block in place of the filter. That is a large rubber o-ring/gasket with a single center bolt to hold it in I think. Could be a ***** to get at though
.
Good Luck!

Thanks for that suggestion....Everything is a ***** to get to in this boat (312 Formula-Procharged).....if you ever need into the engine bay, you have to remove all the Procharger pressure, intake & filter tubes & wall panels!! About the only thing you can do without that is check the oil, & that ain't easy!!
I will be removing every thing so I can just check the plugs first, then the oil cooler, lines, etc. It's gotta be there somewhere!!

dang it!!
